Cougar Town blog size
Auckland has some incredible vineyards. And what better way to enjoy the outdoors than with a glass of local Pinot Gris in your hands? You owe it to yourself to go and check these places out. You owe it to Summer. So, grab a few friends and give the characters on Cougar Town a run for their money. Because no great story ever started with someone eating a salad.

Ransom Wines

Ransom 1
For wine with unique character, captivating vineyard views and platters of perfection, Ransom Wines is a must visit for any wine lover.

A must try is their Famous Wine Taster’s Platter which not only tastes fantastic but helps to soak up some of the wines you’ve indulged in so far. The platter comes with locally sourced cheeses, speciality breads and some of the most delicious dips you’ve ever tried.

Ascension Wine Estate

Ascension Estate
When you first step on to the Ascension Wine Estate, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d been transported to a Tuscan hillside. Once in the cellar door, we were greeted by warm and very experienced staff. The Pinot and Sauvignon blanc were our favourites and were enjoyed by sitting in the garden and soaking up some sun.

Soljans Estate Winery

Soljans Estate
This epic winery is located at the gateway to Kumeu’s Wine Country. Famous for producing NZ’s most awarded sparkling wine, it’s well worth a visit! With such a wide range of delicious hand crafted wines, the only hard part will be choosing your favourite. Soljans have a fantastic Alfresco dining area which serves Mediterranean-style food with a New Zealand twist.

Cable Bay Vineyards

Cable Bay Vineyards
Just like the setting of a fairytale, you’ll be on top of a broadly sweeping hill. Except it’s better than a fairytale because we can’t recall any fairytale having a Syrah this good. This place has the best of both worlds – if you’re feeling classy then you can enjoy an upmarket meal in The Dining Room or stretch out on the grass outside and take in the views of the Hauraki Gulf and Auckland skyline.

Omaha Bay Vineyard

Omaha Bay Vineyard
With Omaha Bay and Little Barrier Island in the backdrop, award winning wines and antipasto platters, the only difficult part about visiting OBV was leaving. Both our palates and minds were in for a treat. The staff were very knowledgeable and told us all about the influences of the vineyard on the wine styles and specific flavours and textures that come from their boutique vineyard. Tasting the result was even better!
